Real writers struggle with the doubting thoughts, insecurities and fear of judgment as much as anyone who puts pen to paper with the intention that someone else reads their words.
In the words of a beloved mentor Mary Engelbreit…
Snap Out of It!
Go for a walk and get some fresh air. Call a friend and talk about what you want to write about. Record a message on your phone with you rambling about what you want to say and how much you want to reach your audience with your message. Grab a magazine and start assembling pictures of images to create a visual of what you want to convey.
Then…grab a pen & paper…journal and for five minutes don’t think; just write. Write about what is going on in your life, what happened yesterday that surprised you, what you are looking forward to next week, what you want to accomplish by the end of the year, or whatever is has been rumbling around in the back of your brain and demands attention now that you are inviting those thoughts to be heard. I guarantee that after five minutes you will have material for your blog, newsletter, and social media!
And you will have demonstrated for yourself two valuable lessons:
- Real writers do get stuck sometimes.
- Real writers are never stuck for very long because they know there are readers out there waiting to read what the Real Writer has to say!
