A totally different perspective…

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was sent to live with her spinster aunt after her parents died. This was no ordinary little girl. She had enormous blue eyes through which she viewed the world with a unique vision. While others saw things as tedious (fried chicken every Sunday dinner), boring (no new toys to play with just lots of playmates), and exasperating (inventing excuses to stay in bed to be the center of attention)… she saw them as comforting (fried chicken is delicious), exciting (always having a ready-made team) and affirming (folks dropping by and being genuinely delighted to find you out of bed).

It seems the little girl had written a letter to the missionary people requesting a doll in the next delivery of supplies. When the box arrived and her father, a missionary, opened the box, they found a pair of crutches. Instead of being upset, her father said she should be glad she didn’t need the crutches!

Her father invented the game – The Glad Game – to help her find a totally different perspective when life wasn’t going smoothly.

Of course, by now you know I’m talking about Pollyanna, that Disney classic.

You too can play The Glad Game and find a totally new perspective in your approach to the many details you must juggle in owning your own business, or the next dilemma the pops up in your life.

  • Look for the positive in every situation.
  • Focus on what is good right now.
  • Find a way to rewrite your thinkingreprogram your brain waves to see the glass half full rather than half empty.

Keeping a Gratitude Journal is a version of playing the Glad Game. Before you go to bed in the evening, write down in a small notebook three to five things that happened during the day you are grateful for, that touched you, and that you are glad about. Soon you will be looking for incidents to record in your Gratitude Journal, playing your personal version of the Glad Game and have…a totally new perspective.
